Vertigo can make the room feel like it is moving.
Vertigo is the sensation that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving when they are not. It can have several causes, including inner-ear problems and, less commonly, neck-related factors. At The Reserve Chiropractic & HBOT in Newcastle, Oklahoma, we begin by understanding the pattern of your symptoms and whether chiropractic evaluation is appropriate.
Start with a clear first step.
Consultation, careful examination, any needed X-rays, one complete chiropractic treatment and recommendations to get you well.
Vertigo is a symptom, not a diagnosis by itself.
The goal is to understand what the dizziness feels like, what triggers it, how long it lasts and whether the pattern points toward an inner-ear, neurologic, cardiovascular or musculoskeletal cause.
Some people experience brief spinning when they roll over in bed or change head position. Others feel off balance, lightheaded or unsteady. Because dizziness can come from many different systems, the exact pattern matters.
A careful history and screening can help determine whether your symptoms are appropriate for chiropractic evaluation or whether you should be referred for medical or vestibular assessment.
What can contribute to vertigo or dizziness?
These are common possibilities, not a diagnosis. Your exam helps narrow down what is most relevant to your symptoms.
Joint irritation
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV, is a common inner-ear cause of brief spinning triggered by changes in head position.
Muscle tension
Inner-ear inflammation or other vestibular problems can affect balance and create dizziness, spinning or motion sensitivity.
Disc involvement
Migraine can sometimes cause dizziness or vertigo, even when headache pain is not the main symptom.
Nerve irritation
Blood-pressure changes, dehydration, medication effects and other medical issues can cause lightheadedness that may feel different from true spinning vertigo.
Movement limitations
Neck tension or altered cervical movement may contribute to dizziness in some people, but this is a diagnosis of exclusion after more common causes are considered.
Work + lifestyle stress
Neurologic or cardiovascular conditions can also cause dizziness, which is why sudden, severe or unusual symptoms should not be assumed to be musculoskeletal.
What kind of care may help?
Treatment depends on what your exam shows. We keep the plan focused on what makes sense for your presentation rather than automatically putting everyone through the same protocol.
Some dizziness needs urgent medical evaluation.
Chiropractic care is not appropriate for every dizzy spell. Seek urgent medical attention if vertigo or dizziness is accompanied by neurologic, cardiovascular or rapidly changing symptoms.
- New facial drooping, weakness or numbness
- Trouble speaking, swallowing or understanding speech
- Sudden severe trouble walking or loss of coordination
- A sudden severe headache unlike your usual headaches
- Chest pain, fainting or severe shortness of breath
- New double vision, vision loss or persistent vomiting

A few common questions.
Chiropractic care may help some people when dizziness is associated with neck tension or restricted cervical motion, but vertigo can have many causes. Screening is important before deciding whether chiropractic care is appropriate.
Spinal decompression is not generally a treatment for vertigo. It would only be relevant if a separate cervical disc or nerve problem also needed treatment.
Not everyone with vertigo needs imaging. Depending on your symptoms, Dr. Conner may recommend medical or vestibular evaluation rather than imaging, especially if the pattern does not look musculoskeletal.
BPPV is a common inner-ear cause of brief spinning triggered by changes in head position, such as rolling over in bed or looking up. It is typically evaluated and treated with specific vestibular maneuvers rather than routine chiropractic treatment.
You do not have to guess what kind of care you need.
Start with an evaluation. We can help you understand whether your dizziness pattern appears appropriate for chiropractic evaluation or whether another medical or vestibular next step makes more sense.
